All about BFGoodrich Tires

Having more than one hundred years of heritage under its belt, the BFGoodrich Tires is passionate about providing the highest tire performance meant for those who are equally passionate about driving in any condition. It combined technical expertise along with forty years of experience in motorsports to deliver tires which give a full range driving experience right from ultra-high performance on-road to its off-road performance with just one theme always at the back of its mind-extreme performance.

BFG (BFGoodrich) KO2 Milage

To ensure BFGoodrich Tires always delivers on its promises, the tires undergo a series of tests which include:

  • Internal sidewall splitting test: The result of the sidewall aggression splitting check was gotten from well-simulated sidewall aggression testing machine. The result can be changed pending the final testing.
  • Off-road Gravel Endurance Test and On-road Internal Wear Test: Both results are also subject to change pending the final testing result.
  • Mud Condition Traction Test via SAE Rating which is then converted to a percentage by comparative analysis program. The result of this is also subject to change until final testing.
  • Commissioned Third Part Test. Standard GM Spin was used in this test and the result is equally subject to the final result.

In the fall of the year 2014, BFGoodrich launched a new product which they called the BFG KO2. Some people were given the privilege to be the first set of people to try out this new product. For several days it was tested and was driven through roads filled with sand, silt, rain, mud, rock and every other type of terrain you can imagine excluding snow.

By the end of the third day, it was collectively agreed that the BFG KO2 with its coreguard technology, sidewall rubber, and several other features was going to stand the test of time and five years down the line. It seems to be the standard with which all other all-terrain tires are judged.

Come along as we discover if the BFG KO2 is all they say it is.

DESCRIPTION

The BFG KO2 mileage is designed with some features that make it unique, and unlike the first design, these features include the following:

Sidewalls: It has a sidewall that is 20% tougher than the original design and also features a race-proven core guard technology which can ride through even the roughest terrain with confidence.

Bruise and split resistant sidewall: The sidewalls are made of rubber which is resistant to bruise and split. This feature was gotten from BFG race and has proven to be a Baja T /A KR2 tire. It makes use of CoreGard Technology which is developed from this Baja T/A KR2 to resist split and bruise as the sidewalls are thicker and have a more extended shoulder which prevents sidewall failures.

Improved rubber thickness: There’s also no denying that it has an increased rubber thickness which extends to the sidewall and is used in protecting the tire against sidewall failure.

Advanced Deflection Design: It has a superior deflection design which automatically deflects protruding objects and prevents the objects from splitting and snagging the sidewalls of the tires. This is so because it uses a computer model to predict objects on its path and then creates a sidewall design geared towards deflecting these protruding objects. It reduces their chances of splitting and snagging the tire which in its turn results in a tougher tire for improved off-road use.

Extended Tread life: You can travel for thousands of miles nonstop as it has a longer tread life to extend your adventure and fun as the KO2 has a new and improved tread design as well as rubber formulation. It helps the tire last twice as long as before on gravel and also fifteen percent longer on asphalt than the KO model. The tread rubber is specifically designed to reduce tears and chips on asphalt.

Increased Tread Block Stability: The locking 3-D Sipes is another feature where this tire gets it right as this provides an increased level of block stability and evenly distributes the wear over the tread. Thanks to a newly developed footprint shape as well as an interlocking tread design, the wear is equally distributed all over the tire.

Aggressive all-terrain traction:It has a strong and aggressive all-terrain traction that can maneuver through any road with confidence. With its Serrated Shoulder Lugs featured in the sidewall, which helps to improve traction in mud, rocks, and snow, and also the raised bar in the shoulder, which helps to release compacted mud, it provides all-round improved traction in any soil. Also, its 3-D sipes ensure there’s a biting edge for more snow traction.

Interlocking Tread Element:This optimizes the traction and also handle on-road and off-road movement by ensuring that the tread center is stabilized and that it provides a biting edge for better and more improved traction.

Stone Ejectors: It also has special stone ejectors which remove the stones from the tires to prevent them from drilling into and causing permanent damage.

OVERALL REVIEW

The KO2 is an improved version of the original KO. It features more traction being resistant to puncture and very durable. Qualitatively, this product differs from its parent design. According to Newsome, “the KO2 has an obvious appeal for the serious off-road enthusiasts”.

This tire, therefore, is expected to appeal to those who regularly face tough gravel, snow-coated and dirt reeked roads. Its durability, traction, improved tread-life, and its fantastic road manner makes the tire ideal for use either for work or play.

It is generally agreed upon that the more a tire travels off-road, the shorter its lifespan becomes. So, if we are to answer how long an off-road all-terrain tire lasts, then it may be challenging to do so.

However, since we are reviewing the BFG KO2 mileage, I will underline that it comes with a standard manufacturer’s warranty.  This warranty also covers things like defects in materials as well as manufacturing processes for a tread in use or a warranty that last for as long as six years.

Also, the BFG KO2 does not come with mileage guarantee, this though is for a good reason.  Unlike what is obtainable with different types of tires, the longer these are driven, the longer its duration. However, the more they are being abused and ill-used, then the quicker they will need replacement.

So, these tires can last up to 50,000 miles if they are being used on the on-road terrain and about 40,000 miles if they are to be used on off-road terrain occasionally and can last for between 25,000 to 30,000 miles more if appropriately used before they will need to be replaced. These numbers may sound a bit low when compared to many passenger cars that can go up to 65,000 miles or even more. Yet, you should note that the BFG KO2 is made to deliver off-road traction, significantly curb weight of a fully loaded truck and are very long-lasting, too.

Another appealing feature of this tire is its design; there is no denying that it’s aesthetically pleasing to the eyes with this thick shoulder rubber, which gives it an enhanced function when grabbing rocks and also gives it the real look of an ideal off-road tire.

BFG KO2 LIFESPAN: WHAT’S THE WORKING MECHANISM?

You may wonder how the BFG KO2 is designed to be all that it is. Firstly, this tire comes with an interlocking tread design which ensures the tread blocks are more stable and allows them to wear out evenly rather than concentrate on just one part of the tire.

There is also the fact that it is designed with an in-built stone ejector which aids in ejecting stones from the tread. These stones if left to lodge in the tire can cause severe damage to the tread, wear or even affect the performance of the tire. Its stone ejector, as well as mud-phobia bars, does a fantastic job of optimizing the tire’s traction when it is being driven through scattered rocks and thick mud.

Besides, it supplements the tire’s specially designed tread rubber which doesn’t only have a firm grip on the terrain but also lasts very long. In addition, the basic design of the tire’s footprint on the ground surface is made to evenly distribute the vehicle load and cause more even distribution of wear and tear.

As a result of this, the KO2 did not only take what is already a sturdy, durable and well-designed off-road all-terrain tire (which the KO was) but it also improved it in aspects such as its capacity, durability and comfort thereby ensuring that the upgraded KO2 mileage gives you maximum satisfaction, support, and style as you ride on the road.

Love these tires. They came quickly and were an easy install. We do a lot of trail riding with the Wrangler Riders community and our weekly events demand great tires that can hold up to crawling, mud and brush.

Very durable and well made. Very easy to install on any 1.9 beadlock set of rims. Gave me way more performance with my Traxxas defender and my axial jeep Cherokee. Would highly recommend these tires.

First impression . Baddass! Much more aggressive than the picture shows. So aggressive that I was worried about road noise.
